There are a number ways in which we can directly assist with meals and meal preparation for people with a disability living in their own home:

 

Meal preparation under the Home Support Programme

SERVICE

The Domestic Assistance Service provides assistance with buying, preparing and cooking food in your home

ELIGIBILITY

The frail-elderly and younger people with a disability who live in the following suburbs:

Adamstown, Bar Beach, Bennetts Green, Broadmeadow, Cardiff, Carrington, Charlestown, Cooks Hill, Dudley, Garden Suburbs, Gateshead, Georgetown, Hamilton, Highfields, Hillsborough, Islington, Kahibah, Kooragang, Kotara South, Macquarie Hills, Maryville, Mayfield, Mayfield West, Merewether, Mt Hutton, Newcastle, Redhead, Stockton, The Hill, The Junction, Tighes Hill, Tingira Heights, Warabroook, Whitebridge, Wickham and Windale.

COST

A nominal fee is charged – the amount will be discussed on assessment.

Frozen Meals Home Delivered

SERVICE

The Frozen Food Service provides a variety of food services using volunteers for service delivery. The aim of the food service is to provide clients with culturally appropriate nutrition, advice and service in a flexible manner and in accordance with individual client needs. Services provided include:

– Advice on nutritional intake

– Emergency food service support

– Special diets for health, religious or cultural reasons

– Delivered frozen food service

ELIGIBILITY

Frail older persons or younger people with disabilities and their carers.

COST

Frozen meals come in a variety of prices depending on the size of the meal and the supplier. All have free home delivery.

AREA

The areas covered are those parts of West Lake Macquarie from Woodrising through Toronto to Coal Point and Rathmines.

SERVICE

Our Food Service provides a variety of food services using volunteers and paid staff. The aim of the food service is to provide clients with culturally appropriate nutrition, advice and service in a flexible manner and in accordance with individual client needs. Services provided include:

– Advice on nutritional intake

– Emergency food service support

– Cooking lessons

– Special diets for health, religious or cultural reasons

– Assistance with shopping, information and referrals

ELIGIBILITY

Frail older persons or younger people with disabilities and their carers.

COST

Minimal fees apply

The areas covered are those parts of West Lake Macquarie from Woodrising through Toronto to Coal Point and Rathmines.

A morning tea and a two course cooked lunch is available: Monday – Friday at Newcastle Elderly Citizens Centre Monday – Thursday at Tighes Hill Day Centre (for clients only) Every Thursday at West Wallsend HACC Centre
