AN OPEN LETTER TO THE RESIDENTS OF SINGLETON
Dear Residents of Singleton,
Mercy Services has now formally closed its Residential Aged Care Facility in Singleton.
During the past five months in the lead-up to the closure, we have worked compassionately and diligently to help find alternative accommodation that meets the individual needs of our former residents. Most of our former residents are now being cared for in equivalent facilities either in Singleton or the broader Hunter Valley.
At each step of what has understandably been a difficult process for residents, their families and our staff, we have involved the Commonwealth Government’s Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, the Department of Health and Aged Care and Seniors Rights NSW. At all times, we have complied in spirit and practice with the User Rights Principles under the Aged Care Act.
We are proud of the care that has been delivered to the many residents of the Mercy Services Residential Aged Care, Singleton since it was established by the Sisters in 1983. The Board of Mercy Services would also like to thank the community of Singleton for its support during this time.
To our staff and volunteers, many of whom live locally and worked with us for a decade or more, we sincerely thank you for your commitment and humanity while caring for our most vulnerable older community members.
Thank you again for your support.
Mercy Services Board
