Mercy Services operates four centres where people with a disability can engage in fun activities, enjoy an nutritious meal and meet friends.
Newcastle Elderly Citizens Centre
This oasis of friendship is located in a Newcastle’s historic shopping area. Each weekday it provides a hot meal and dessert and much social interaction.
Lunch is served at midday and costs $5.50 with morning tea $1. One of the main attractions is the social interaction amongst patrons. Ther are also guest speakers, entertainment and fortnightly musical bingo on alternate Thursdays.
The Centre operates Monday – Friday, 9am – 2.30pm

Tighes Hill Day Centre
SERVICE
The Day Centre provides a wide variety of activities which cater for the individual needs of our clients. Activities include table games, celebrations of special events/dates, outings to suitable park venues for BBQs and picnics as well as visits to Clubs that provide concerts suitable for our group. The Day Centre also has access to many voluntary concert groups who come to the Centre to provide a variety of enjoyable entertainment.
The Day Centre operates Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.00 am until 2:30 pm. Transport can be arranged for you via our wheelchair accessible 20 and 13 seater buses. Alternatively, arrangements can be made for family or friends to bring you.
ELIGIBILITY
Frail-older persons and persons with a disability and living in the Newcastle Local Government Area.
COST
The Day Centre cost is $13.20 per day, which includes transport, morning tea and a hot lunch. Costs vary for those providing their own transport & special outings.

Activity shed for men with dementia, suspected memory loss or cognitive impairment
SERVICE
The Social Support & Monitoring (Dementia Specific) service provides:
◾ Social Support in home, centre-based and community outings.
◾ Co-ordination of appointments and bookings; planning daily activities; liaison with family/carers as required.
◾ Monitoring medication, health and safety.
◾ Referral to other services as needed
◾ Choice support can assist an individual to establish a support plan and network—identifying people they would like to assist them (i.e. family, friends, neighbours or our volunteers/paid staff).
◾ Lending library has memory aid equipment and materials to assist clients to remain independent and at home.
ELIGIBILITY
Priority is given to individuals with suspected memory loss and/or cognitive impairment who are living alone and who are frail aged or a person with a disability and their carers living in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie LGA’s.
COST
The Coordinator will discuss at assessment the individual’s willingness and ability to make a contribution towards the cost of the service. No-one will be denied service due to an inability to pay.

Lunches at West Wallsend
SERVICE
The lunches held at our West Wallsend Centre often involve games, celebrations of special events/dates, outings to suitable park venues for BBQs and picnics as well as visits to Clubs that provide concerts suitable for our group. A number of voluntary entertainers also come to the Centre to provide a variety of enjoyable entertainment.
